3. Apply a liberal amount of oil to the crankshaft bearing. Using a propane torch, heat the bearing Assembling Crankcase until the oil begins to smoke; then slide the crank- Half shaft assembly into place. NOTE: For ease of assembly, install components on the right-side crankcase half. NOTE: If the output shaft was removed, make sure that the proper shim is installed. 1. Install the output shaft into the crankcase making sure the two gears, shim, washer, and nut are in the correct order. MD1334 NOTE: If heating the bearing is not possible, the crankshaft can be installed using a crankshaft installer. 4. Rotate the crankshaft so the counterweight is toward the rear of the engine. Install the counter- balance shaft. MD1199 MD1024 5. Keeping the counterbalance gear timing mark aligned with the one on the crankshaft gear, install MD1079 the key and the counterbalance gear. 2. Apply red Loctite #271 to the threads of the output shaft. Install and tighten the nut 59 ft-lb. Using a punch, peen the nut. CD826A 6.
